ReplyThe three are lucky the charge isn't aggravated murder. They might get out in ten years.

On the article Amanda Buxton Arraigned On Charges Of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Pleads Not Guilty

ReplyThis is a very dangerous intersection where drivers often encounter cars parked in the right lane immediately upon turning right onto Fairmount from the circle, forcing a quick left lane shift. I have seen many, many near accidents at this precise spot. There are lots of trees and utility poles to hit should one veer off the roadway even a few feet. Poor Amanda found one unfortunately.
The City of Shaker Heights should not allow parking on this stretch of Fairmount.
My sympathies to the victim's family, and to Amanda, who must be dealing with an awful lot of grief.
Word is that the victim had his head out the window when the collision occurred. Is this true? And what was Amanda's blood alcohol level? And what prescription drug did she have in the car? Aren't these details part of the court proceedings? This young woman is being made out to be the epitome of drunken stupidity, but without the facts we shouldn't be so quick to judge.

On the article Shaker Mayor Responds to Cleveland Heights Councilman's Fire Merger Request

ReplyThe expected response from the mayor of a city whose citizens have voted to increase their taxes twice in the couple of years (property tax AND an income tax hike). They don't need to economize (yet), and UH is seen as easy pickings as long as the UH staff moves aside and lets the larger SH department take over.
Remember, its all about politics and which town's employees comes out on top. That's why it takes so long for such a rather obvious move to be made. In the private sector, such hesitancy would spell doom. But in the fairy tale world of local politics, time is always on their side....

ReplyBiking is a very wholesome activity, and the demographics of people who bike are very strong (healthy, wealthy, and wise). The more we can do to make biking more accessible and available the better.

ReplyStarbucks should move from their too small spot down the street. Or maybe Phoenix Coffee should take over in combination with a bookstore. Either of these operators would be a quick and easy fix.
But a coffee venue would be underutilizing the space. In its best and higgest use it should house a great high end restaurant. Are you listening Mssrs Bruel and Symon?

ReplyI am continually amazed by the competence level demonstrated by the Cleveland Heights police department. While other suburbs focus their safety forces on raising money through needless speed traps and red light cameras, our police are out catching bad guys in the act.

ReplyGame rooms are for places like the Heights rec center or the Boys and Girls Clubs. A library needs a modicum of quiet to remain viable for other users. This is mission creep at its worst.

ReplyMr. Wasser was a breath of fresh air at Fairfax last year and he should not be forced to leave for a sham desk job. This needless change hurts the students and teachers at Fairfax and should be changed.

Ohio law says if someone dies while you are committing a crime all involved are responsible for the death, even if the deceased was a cohort.
The security guard was doing his job, not committing a crime.
Since he's also a bailiff at the justice center this case will have all the stops pulled. The three better start making arrangements to take care of their outside responsibilities as all will likely be incarcerated from this point forward since its very unlikely that they will be able to make bail.
All this because of a screaming match!
